Cable approach we applied for our solution.
All current cabling are common internet cables (CAT-5, UTP).
Reasoning why we have chosen this type of cable is:
- Common available
- Fare price level, cheap, well knowned
- Easy to apply connectors, equipment and tooling widely available
- Easy to connect two cable together with common cable extension blocks
- Easy to check quality of cabling
- Twisted pair (UTP). UTP minimize interferences in data cables. Interference can do many funny things and can introduce false positive.
- Comes with four pairs of wires per cable. As we only need two pair we can use the other pairs for different application. We can use one pair to add power to our equipment.
- Although we are using CAT-5 cables and connectors it is not internet and therefor e we can use 1-to-2 cable splitters which allows us to to add new sensors to the solution.
